2014/07/22 B3D Webinar: StoryMaking

Ethan Smith, Janice McDougall and I will be hosting a B3D Webinar on the ideas discussed by Randy Olson and Brian Palermo in ZQ09.  We will quickly cover the highlights of Don't Be Such a Scientist: Talking Substance in an Age of Style and Connection: Hollywood Storytelling Meets Critical Thinking.  Most of the webinar will be 'learning by doing' - we will take a story (the vote was overwhelmingly for SLIPS by the Wyss Institute) and then collectively try to develop a Word, Sentence and Paragraph (WSP) and see if we can create an even better story.

The webinar will be held on July 22nd at 07:00 PDT, 08:00 MDT, 09:00 CDT, 10:00 EDT, 15:00 BST, 16:00 CEST, 17:00 EEST and 22:00 SGT.  Registration at https://business-hangouts.com/register.php?m=OTE2OXwxNjE1OQ== is required.   Please use the Sign in with Google+ button if possible, otherwise you will not be able to participate on the panel.

For a quick overview of of the WSP method, please watch the 15 minute video clip Can Storytelling Be Factual and Effective? in which Andrew Revkin interviews Randy Olson, Dorie Barton and Brian Palermo.  For background on SLIPS please read the attached article by Tom McKeag from from Zygote Quarterly issue 3.
