Learn about biomimicry in the context of Houston’s local ecosystem with leaders in the field and connect with others in our regional BiomimicryTX network. In this Backyard Biomimicry Workshop offered by the Biomimicry Group, you’ll co-learn with students and professionals of various disciplines about the foundations of biomimicry and equip yourself to approach our region’s most pressing design challenges by drawing inspirations from the natural world- found right in our own backyard!

About the Workshop

A one-day classroom workshop taught by Biomimicry Specialist Candidate, Kathy Zarsky, covering the basics of biomimicry, including case studies, Life’s Principles, iSites and Integrating Biology into Design.

This event is being co-organized with Blackwood Lands Educational Center and the Houston Bioneers Conference

Learning Objectives:

  1. Define biomimicry and its core values
  2. Navigate the scoping, creating and evaluating stages of biomimicry methodology and understand what it means to incorporate biology into each of those phases
  3. Utilize the Life’s Principles diagram as a design, scoping, and evaluation tool
  4. Leverage Life’s Principles as a gateway to world of biology and ecology
  5. Know how to participate in BiomimicryTX and what opportunities are available based upon individual goals
