Biomimicry Faculty Research Positions, University of Akron

Information provided by Peter H. Niewiarowski:

I would like to bring to your attention an open search for three new faculty in the area of biomimicry/biomimetics/biologically-inspired design at the University of Akron, Akron Ohio, USA.

The new faculty will be hired under one of the following 3 foci:

  • Biomechanics
  • Soft materials
  • BioDesign

All three positions are tenure/tenure track.

We were just recently funded to hire approximately 10-15 new faculty in Biomimicry across the campus through strategic reallocation of university funds. Our webpage describes the initiative and the searches/other activities associated with this effort: http://uabiomimicry.org/.

We are looking to hire faculty into these each of these areas of biomimetic research using joint appointments that help them bridge the traditional disciplinary departments that would typically house a faculty member of such expertise.

I hope that you will consider if any of these positions would be a good fit for your expertise and career interests, or if the positions might seem attractive to one or more of your colleagues (if so, please forward this email to your colleagues so that all those who might be interested in such positions will be aware and able to determine if they would like to apply, or ask for more information). If you would like more information, together with my colleagues, I would be happy to address all of your questions as best I can.

The University of Akron has an undergraduate population of about 29,000 students, offers more than 15 doctorates and is internationally recognized for a number of its graduate programs, including Polymer Science and Engineering. The University recently committed significant resources to the biomimicry research initiative.
