Biomimicry is a great vehicle to help teachers embed a strong engineering and design component in their curriculum and meet the goals of NGSS, CCS and STEAM. This activity-packed workshop for teachers of grades 3-12 will be led by Dr. Sue Kezios, Director of Youth Programs at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. One of her major initiatives is Nature’s Engineers, a program that introduces youth to the science of biomimicry. The workshop will include many of the activities Dr. Kezios has developed for her youth programs.

This 4-day, 30 hour workshop is designed to:

  • Help participants develop respect for nature as a creative problem solver
  • Provide participants with experiences that will help them understand nature as an engineer
  • Engage participants in a multitude of Common Core & Next Gen Standard activities inspired by nature that use the engineering design process
  • Provide time for participants to integrate the activities into their curriculum
  • Connect participants with NYS inventors and entrepreneurs that are incorporating biomimicry into their processes and products

PD Credit: 30 hours In-service credit based on district policy
