The first of two workshops on the theme of Charting a Course for Computer-Aided Bio-inspired Design Research was held at the Palo Alto Sheraton on March 20, 2011. The goal was to bring together researchers in "engineering design, computer science and biology [who seek] to systematically mine biological knowledge to solve existing engineering problems". The article NSF Bio-Inspired Design Workshop in the June/2011 BioInspired! newsletter includes highlights of the workshop. A second workshop will be held in College Station, Texas on June 5, 2011.
