Course Summary: This is a hands-on field course that will take you to many of the unique ecosystems of the San Francisco Bay Area, and show you how to collect lessons from nature for your own design projects. You will learn some field observation techniques, biomimetic design concepts, and produce a design logbook of inspirations from nature for use in your area of study. The purpose of this course is to provide you with techniques for observing nature that will enhance your design practice.

About the Instructor: Tom McKeag, MLA, MCP, is a California registered Landscape

Architect and Town Planner and an Adjunct Professor at CCA. He has taught bio-inspired design at CCA, UC Berkeley, and in the Marin California Public School system since 2006. He is the Founder and President of BioDreamMachine, a California public benefit corporation dedicated to teaching bio-inspired design, and a Fellow of the Biomimicry Institute. He is a Co-Founder and Editor at Zygote Quarterly, , and writes a regular blog about the topic at GreenBiz. There is nothing he likes better than mucking about in the intertidal zone on a summer day.
