Using Technology for Grants

A workshop held in Toronto on February 15th discussed various ways that technology can be used to help find grants and handle reporting on how the grant is spent.  The presentations largely explored Canadian grants although some of the process issues are generalizable.

Jessica Hazen from the Centre for Social Innovation talked about the process of writing grants and the importance of time management.  The downloadable presentation would benefit from some notes!  The second presentation by Imagine Canada and Ajah Fundtracker reviewed resources for finding appropriate foundations.  The downloadable presentation describes the funding landscape and the Imagine Canada database.  The third presentation by Frontline Partners with Youth Networks emphasized the importance of targeting the right granting organization that will partner with you on the project goals, not just provide funding.  A downloadable FPYN’s Ten Points of Learned Wisdom captures some of the insights they have developed.  There are also nine YouTube clips of the Q&A.

Another resource is the article Grant Series: Research Funders and Find Appropriate Grants that lists different kinds of granting organizations, tips for finding grants and how to develop relationships with funders.
