Online Master of Science in Biomimicry

The online Master of Science in Biomimicry at ASU is a first of its kind program focusing on an emerging discipline that seeks to apply life’s strategies to human design. Offered in collaboration with Biomimicry 3.8 through The Biomimicry Center at ASU, the MS also complements the Certified Biomimicry Professional program offered by Biomimicry 3.8.

Through this degree program, you will learn the methodology and practice of the discipline and how to facilitate its application across a wide-variety of applications. This program is ideal if you are interested in innovative, transdisciplinary learning and the opportunity to work with students from around the globe to advance the field and develop sustainable, real-world applications. You will also apply the fundamentals of your training during a series of practicums, including a self-designed “Biomimicry Virtual Design Lab.”

ASU Offers Master’s of Science in Biomimicry and Graduate Certificate in Biomimicry

The Biomimicry Center is a joint effort between Arizona State University and Biomimicry 3.8 (B3.8) that facilitates education and research endeavors to create sustainable solutions by emulating biological forms and strategies. The Center fuses the intellectual disciplines and work of biologists, designers, engineers, business professionals, communicators, material scientists, chemists and others to address system-level opportunities and challenges.

In addition to coordinating broad sustainability initiatives related to biomimicry, the Biomimicry Center also will offer the first-ever Master’s of Science in Biomimicry and the first-ever Graduate Certificate in Biomimicry. These online programs are accredited versions of professional training programs developed by Biomimicry 3.8 since 2008.  Both the master’s and certificate programs have begun accepting applicants through ASU Online, and development of an on-campus master’s program is underway.

PhD Research Project: Biomimicry, biophilia, and urban design solutions

Institution: University of Leeds
Dept/School/Faculty: Faculty of Biological Sciences
PhD Supervisor: Dr C Hassall
Application Deadline: Thursday, January 29, 2015
Funding Availability: Competition Funded PhD Project (European/UK Students Only)

This research project will seek to resolve design challenges within the built environment using knowledge derived from the whole spectrum of biological organisation. You will work in a cross-disciplinary setting, making the most of innovative biomimicry research networks through Leeds Beckett University and one of the UK’s largest Life Sciences faculties based at the University of Leeds, to provide the link between engineering, urbanism, and biology and ecology.
